Life as a Hero Journey
Among all people there are legends and stories that try to describe journey of one human life on earth. All sorts of stories are now constantly offered to us by advertisers, the "gods and goddesses" of mass entertainment, governments, organizations. It is not a question of whether we will have one, but which one. When we believe a myth of life, hidden possibility breaks through into the everyday. Power t imagine and expect future is aroused. Particular crises, situations and disasters can be understood, digested, handled. We can walk into life, rather than trying to fly or crawl.
In fact, we have no identity (do not know who we dependably are) unless we are constantly weaving together all that happens to us into come "story of my life." Without a thread of story, we get lost in the labyrinth, our self is so fragile that it disappears!
There is danger that all of us want to remain in a state of sleepy dreaming and undifferentiated friendliness with all about is. That we think life consists of impulse release of our hunger for pleasure. So much so that no strength of character ever happens.
There is a myth - found in the folk wisdom of peoples - that this is a precarious world; that to become man means to become some unique and tested particularity that can offer life freshly to those about him.
